Adam and Eve were created and existed in paradise in a state of innocence. This meant they had no knowledge of what good and evil were, no consciousness of any difference between the two. They were only aware of having a relationship with God as the Creator and they as the creature, man being made head over God’s earthly creation. Adam was given one responsibility, one command (Gen. 2:16-17). When he disobeyed God, he had failed in his responsibility. As a consequence, Adam and Eve were no longer in a state of innocence, but now in a fallen state, having gained the knowledge of good and evil under the power and dominion of sin. In result, all mankind would be born in this new fallen condition. Adam and Eve were chased out of paradise and away from the presence of God.
